Any softail guys here ever try painting your own bikes? I've done 2 sportsters in one color only and they came out great. If you back out the price of the gun the material to do the job right will only cost you about $200.00 to do it in urathane clear coat/base coat.
There isnt anything I won't try, but I know for a fact, painting is not one of my specialties... Hell, I can't even paint a blank wall without making a mistake. I'll leave it to the the pros..
Interesting that the Fatboy (Star) and RK Classic (Chevron) are the only two HDs with their own logos. Sure the FB logo sucks, but you must embrace the suck. Ride proud...
I have a 2009 with denim black paint and the strips are a "soft" red color and most people don't even see them unless they get right up on top of the bike. As for the emblem, never had a problem with it.
Sorry for the second post. As you can see (or not see) in my signature picture, you would not know that there are strips on the front & rear fender and also on the tank. Again you wouldn't notice them unless you get real close. Of course this is with the denim paint. They are more noticeable on the vivid black paint.
I wasn't a big fan of the 'Stick on' tank badge when I first got my Lo-Boy, but now that I have the full fender and the flush cap/gauge installed, I rather like it. the Denim paint is awesome and so easy to clean. plan to get the fork legs blacked out when I get back from Key West, till then, it's in the garage with the cover on it. . . .
