For the last 2 yrs Harley dealership has done the service, but I want to start working on the bike myself.

Check these links, come with pictures and step by step instructions.
Or buy the "fix my hog" DVDs
Or buy the service manual!

DO NOT... I REPEAT... DO NOT remove the plug at the bottom of the engine case. The service manual would be a good investment if you want to do your own service work.

Page 91 of your owners manual. Oil drain plug is in the frame rail on rt side of bike just below the passenger ft peg. 5/8 socket.

If you plan on doing service to your bike do yourself a favor and also buy a Service Manual part #99482-08.

Make sure you can get the derby cover screws loose BEFORE draining the oil out of the primary. Don't ask me how I know.

You won't be able to drive it to a shop to get the screws out, if the fluid is drained. I never found a screw I couldn't (eventually) get out, but those suckers can get froze in that cover and strip out the heads. Happens too often. (Dissimilar metals). The same mistake stranded my neighbor until I bailed him out with my chisel trick.
