Dear crossboners, Im considering putting on a pair of upswept slip ons from shadetree fabrications on my xbones. You can see them at; www.shadetreefabrications.com/boltoncrap.html just scroll down the page about half way until you se them.
Here's the issue, you have to take 5" off the rear header pipe for fitment - can anyone see any issues. Im not across exaust systems but there is something with a wire attached going into the pipe which looks like it would be part of pipe that you have to remove. I thought it was an o2 sensor but apparently not. Kyle from Shadetree suggests you dont have to remap with these pipes - I've got a SE tuner with stage 1 air cleaner currently running V&H long pipes.
I'd really like these pipes but dont want to lose engine performance. Thanks for any insights.
With your setup I would say you do NOT need to do any remapping considering you have the stage 1 already done.
The bigger question I have is about the exhaust itself. They seem pretty cool. I would love to hear what they sound like, how exactly they attach, and how they would fit a XBones with the stock rear fender.
Hmm.....They sure do look cool and I hope somebody chimes in!

Guess you got a HDI model and thus are not in the USA
What you are talking about is the exhaust flap of valve that is installed on all international models. No problem taking it off. It's only there so the bikes will pass the EU noise test. Valve will shut at certain RPMs and force exhaust out through the bottom one thus lowering the decibels produced. (do a google on "active exhaust valve")
Since you already have the SE air filter, the dealer should have deactivated the intake solenoid that was in the original air filter box ... So he might have deactivated the active exhaust valve too.
Thanks, very valuable advice, and yes, I'm dialing in from Australia so sounds like Rakthi is right on the money. Thanks very much. I'll send thru some photos once Ive got tehmn installed. I'm also putting on a set of the ceramic flappers for extra theatre.
Here's a short video on you tube featuring the pipes, with bobber fender. Hope they look as good with teh stock fender and Ive been told the right rear turn signal will NOT need to be relocated. We will see!
+1 on the upswepts. I just love the hot rod look of them. I'd also go for the flappers too. I might have to order a set for future use. I'd love me some brass tips and flappers!!!!
