I believe there is a lip on the bottom front of the seat that rests in the frame. Once the two side bolts are out and the bolt that attaches to the fender, lift and slide it towards the back of the bike.

Cool Removing the seat

Yes, there is a tongue in the front that slides into a flat sleeve.

In addition, on my '06, the two side flanges (the metal pieces holding the screws onto the seat) have a little protrusion that fits into the frame. So, you have to pull one side out (away from the bike) and up, rather hard sometimes, and it will become free. The other side should now be easy to release in the same fashion if necessary. Sometimes it loosens up automatically.

I have found that sitting on the seat to put pressure on it helps. Sit, then with your hand, pull out and up on the right side, then stand and lift. The right side of the seat should follow you. Then loosen the left. Now slide the seat backward and the front tongue will slide out. Be careful not to scratch your paint!

Hope this helps!

Ok I did all that and got it loose. I have a passanger grab strap thats blocking it from coming off. I loosend the torx screws holding the strap on but they appear to have backed out only to spin. How do i get them out? There must be a trick the both did it.

Or.. do i need to break my seat into 2 pieces by removing the 2 torx screws holding the 2 seats together? Man sure would be easier to get that grab strap off.

Or better yet can i charge the battery w/ it in the bike hooked up? I'm just trying to get the battery out because cold killed it.

Calm down before you break something. Taking the seat off is as easy as pie. Single screw behind passenger pillion. Remove passenger pillion.

Two thumb screws behind seat. Lift seat up over screw threads and pull back. There's a tonque on the front of the seat that goes inside the frame.

Im ok. Thats why i couldnt get it loose because I wasnt forcing anything.

My passenger pillion is attached to the rider seat w/ (2) torx screws. I think i have to take those out. Or.. Get this strap off!

I might just hook the charger up the way it is Im sure I can prop the seat up and allow room to get the cables on.

What year's your bike? Mine has the back pillon attached to the drivers' seat with 2 screws on the bottom. You could take that apart. I have done this and created a makeshift quick release. Here's the link: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...e-classic.html. I see the pics are gone. Maybe I'll work that out in the near future.

Whatever you decide there, you're on the right track. It's best you remove the grab strap altogether for sure. There is something on the forum about that. I think that's where I got my info on how to remove it. I'll try to find the link.

The passenger strap has a keyhole shaped opening on the left side. When you apply pressure downward it will pop off the torx bolt head. You can then swivel the seat off to the right and let it hang off the side of the bike for access to the battery etc. Take your time and watch where you let it rest. When reattaching the rear fender bolt, take care to get it started with your fingers, some pressure helps. Dont let a big *** flat screwdriver slip off and scratch the paint like I did.
