Heritage Classic
This must have just been '01's? I never found a pigtail pre-installed on my '06.
I never owned an 06 but I thought the pigtails were pretty much standard since as far back as 2000. Maybe not though. Could of sworn I read that somewhere. I have had an '02 and an '05 and they both had the pigtails (bought used both of them though) along with my now '07 and it came with the pigtail. I plug it in every winter.

UHHHHHHHHH ok wheres the pigtail?
I called the guy that installed my PC and he said either bust the seat in 2 or take the saddlebag off and remove the nut behind the side mount torx. He said he remembers taking the bag off mine but cant remember why he didnt just bust the seat in 2. He said a few he's worked on those screws wont back out of the seat,,, mine may have been one of those ....nice just my luck!
So like i said!!! Wheres the pig tail!!!!!!!!!!
I may just take the strap off. I'll ask my 2 boys if either one of them uses it and if they dont its gone!

I'm hoping you are meaning this figuratively. If you decide to remove the back pillon by backing out the 2 screws, no harm no foul. But you'll have to put it back together the way it was before taking a passenger. Unless, of course you create some kind of quick release system like I had mentioned earlier. The newer models are much easier, but it's not impossible to make yours work.
If you think you'll be riding solo without the pillon from time to time, the strap should go as you say. If you take the right side saddlebag off, you will be able to reach the nut in the fender to remove the screw holding the strap hardware on. remove the strap and hardware and replace the screw for cosmetic reasons. With the pressure taken off of it, the left end of the strap SHOULD now slip off (with a little fiddling) without removing the saddlebag or the screw. If you do this, it will be simple to remove and install your seat from now on.

Also my bike does not have key slotted strap mounts. The left sde has a washer looking deal that appears to be threaded. The torx screw actually threads into in but does not thread out. The right side looks like its just the strap bracket.
Shouldnt be this hard to remove the seat... love my bike but HD laid an egg on this.
Also i dont think there is a pigtail anywhere. You can eat off my bike. I have been in every crack and crevice but I've never seen a pigtail. Could be tucked behind something?Where?
Yea, Harley dropped the ball. It would have been easy for them to make a detachable pillon and quick release saddlebags for the Heritage Classic. The bike looks so good fully loaded or stripped down. Should have been a no-brainer. In more recent years HD utilizes a different system that attaches the passenger pillon to two points on the fender near the rear of the rider's seat instead of two screws on the bottom of the seat. Should have been this way before.
You might have to remove both saddlebags. I actually can't remember if I had to detach the left one. It's not that big of a job.
The pigtail would probably be in the cavity in front of the battery near the battery terminals. Mine had nothing attached to the terminals besides the regular leads, so I installed the pigtail that came with the Battery Tender. I am going to check first opportunity to see if there was a factory pigtail spliced somewhere farther down that I missed.

Well i finally got the seat off. Had to remove the saddlebag,, 9/16 wrench up behind the fender to hold the nut and the torx came right out.
No biggie I've been wanting to get behind the bags and detail it anyhow.
So now i gotta decide if the strap goes. Yall say you just put the torx back in minus the strap? I'm pretty sure the strap is history.
BTW- Thanks everybody!

I also see no other leads on my terminal so i am assuming no pigtails are there.
I'm gonna install a tender so i'll probably be back for detailed instructions cause I'm a stupid.
The pigtail should be tucked down behind the coil in front of the oil bag. Going off of memory there is a bracket or something there and they tuck it in behind that bracket in front of the oil tank.
Phew - pleased you managed to get it done - I removed and replaced my 09 Seat 5 times while I read through the posts, LOL. HD obviously listened, because the 09 seat and strap are simple to remove.
