OK on my '06 the bolt that holds the grabstrap hardware is held in place by a thin nut inside the fender. You will have to remove your saddlebag (2 nuts inside, one support leg bracket outside) to get to it. It shouldn't be that hard.

You can leave your strap off or if you like it, figure out another way to install it. One guy put snaps on it. Only problem is, the one time a passenger might actually use your grab strap (who uses it?) the snaps will let loose!

Hope you're successful.

I have one of those battery tender pigtails on my battery also, plus a pigtail for my Gerbing heated clothing.

I think mines differant. My strap doesnt attach to the seat at all it just goes over it. I see in my service manual a strap like you have. I will check to see if I have a keyed slot on the left side however.

BTW the manual says installation/removal ,, than skips removal entirely and gives you instructions how to install. Weird. Following the steps backwards gets you nowhere plus theyre explaining 3 differant models. Crazy.

Think I'll pick back up on it tomorrow.

My strap is attached to the right side, has the keyhole on the left. Once it's loose you can slide the pillon out of the strap to free the entire seat. The strap remains on the bike.

Haha. No, I think it's the same as yours, and you're right. All you have to do is slip that left side off by first relieving the pressure on the strap. I chose to remove the strap and hardware altogether, which if I remember correctly, meant removing the screw on the right side and then replacing it after taking off the hardware that held the strap.

bud, if all your trying to do is charge the battery at the moment didn't the '01's come with a pigtail also on the right side tucked in front of the oil tank? You should really check that first to see if you have a pigtail already vs. tearing the bike apart.

I agree with this statement. I couldn't find my pigtail when I got around to installing it so I bought another from HD. When I went to install It realized I had already intalled the original.......duh

Geez, I was starting to think you were pulling our chain. Didn't realize taking the seats off the older Heritages was such a pita. As I said, easy as pie on my 08.
