Default Help removing tank for bar install.....

I am trying to lift the tank to install the bars on an 2002 fatboy and pulled the crossover gas hose loose. How can I do this without tank removal? When I tryed to lift the tank the crossover hose came loose. It is still leaking gas. The wife got the bad side of me...Woops. Anywayshall I just remove the entire tank or still try to lift it. I have the clymer manual, and it doesnt say much about either. HElp....Help.....Help......

I just installed bars and cables this past weekend. I removed the tank completely. Took 2 of us to get it off with one holding a finger on the hose and the nipple coming out of the tank and then reinstalled it and placed it on the ground until we were ready to reinstall it and repeated the finger steps. That is the only way we could do it.

trash the clymer crap and get a Harley-Davidson service manual, save yourself a lot of headaches.

I bought the clymer manual too, ugh. It is almost worthless, i learned my lessen. I just got the HD service manual. It walks you through the procedures, lots of good photos, drawings notes and warnings.

If you've gone that far go ahead and take it all the way off, makes the job a lot easier.

I just put new bars on last night and I was a little worried about removing the tank. I got everything unbolted, disconnected the fuel supply line and then I was able to lift up and slide the tank back far enough to get to the wiring connectors without disconnecting the cross over tube. It really wasn't too bad. The HD factory manual was a big help though.
