tape sounds like a good idea, the felt ot carpet will wear the paint right off, dust and dirt gets into the carpet/felt and with the vibration wears the paint right off.. the rubber pads seem to work best, seems like the tape would work too..

Ditto that. The felt, carpet, or whatever will rub the paint with the movement of the seat and fender. The more dirt that gets in between, the worse it gets. A temporary solution is wide clear packaging tape or wide black electrical tape on the fender. Just remove the tape when you remove the passenger seat.

Has anybody removed the paint protector on their fender to run a 1up seat, and then switch back to 2up on occasion. I was curious if their paint got marked up after the 2up seat was on?

Accidently hit the 'post' button -
I replaced the origianl plastic protector with a film called 'Frisket' paper which is used for custom painting and available in most craft stores. It stretches nicely on a curved fender and has a low tack adhesive, so removing it is never an issue. It also offers good protection upon placement of the 2up seat. Probably contact shelf paper would also work.
I now only use the solo seat w/ bib pictured.
