My buddys 1995 Heritage Speedo stopped working. I am removing the front wheel but want to know how to test the Speeometer Drive . Any thoughts ? Thanks, Larry, trapped by ice.

Why not just leave the front wheel installed, spin it, and see if the speedo drive output is turning?

Thanks Bueller, I have the front wheel up and am working on getting the speedo cable off to use your advice. Thanks again.

No problem! If memory serves the cables seemed to fail more than the speedo drives did, but I've seen those fail too. If you have to replace it, make sure the replacement is the same ratio or your speedo will be inaccurate.

Thanks for the additional tips on ratio. I have owned 9 Harleys in my 55 years and always bought the Parts Manual along with the Shop Manual. I am training these New Bees on the value of these simple books.

The last few years I find it a real time and frustration saver if I have the Part Number in hand before a trip to the H-D store.

Thanks Bueller I will let you know the outcome. I have a month before we can really ride anywhere.

Be careful with that. Often you will walk in with a part number only to be told they don't have it. Meanwhile they have the superseded part, but the person at the counter didn't bother to read the "obsolete" and "superseded part #" windows in his Talon screen.

How do I know? I am in charge of Service operations for a three dealer company
