Default Speedo Woes

just the other day while cruising down the highway (70mph) my speedo buried itself on the deep end(120mph). It seems to be working close to accurately at sub 40mph speeds but just keeps climbing after that. I know jack about speedos. Any advise would help. Everything is tight between the sensor and the speedo itself.

A simple fix at times is pulling the speed sensor out and cleaning the metal shavings off of it (it is a magnet) and reinstalling it....
