on occasion when i hit the starter button it will spit pretty hard out of the breather instead of cranking. it always starts right up on the second try and seems to run just fine. is this normal? bike is a o7 deluxe
that is a backfire, caused by fuel vaper in the intake track when a valve is open and plug sparks.. its just a small puff..normal.. evry engine does it, there is absalutly no way to prevent it,it doesnt harm a thing.. now if it was a loud bang, you saw smoke or a flash from the aircleaner and engine was wornout or really out of tune, that is anoutherkind of backfire, you would know there was a problem and it would be time for a repair
My carbed bike will do that if I forget to choke it or if it's really cold out and I'm cranking it for the first time in a few weeks. I can't speak for an efi bike.
I noticed a similar thing with my 08' bones. The "spitting" seemed to get a little worse but like you said it would still turn over on the second try. I just went out to start it on saturday and the battery was almost dead. Charged her over night and she now runs like a champ. The "spitting" is minimal now and barely noticeable. So i guess for me it was just a low charge on my battery? Just thought i would share my issue. Hope this helps.

I was also thinking that it might have something to do with the battery being low. when it happened the other day my bike had been sitting for close to a month due to weather, and my battery is the one that came new in the bike june of 07. anyway I bought a tender for it and I guess Ill see how she goes.
