Default Trouble starting/ stalling

Need some help with my 08 nighttrain.
The bike with periodically turn off while riding when I pull the clutch in and let the rpm drop. It would usually happen after a long ride when pullin up to a stop. The other day it happened while splitting lanes on the fwy.
Another problem I've been having (unknown if it's related) is once the bike has warmed up after a ride and I do a quick stop for fuel etc. the bike has trouble starting up. The starter will start cracking a couple times then a little grinding noise then will backfire and start up.
Dealer looked heard it and was quick with the you need a new starter. $400 part+ 4 hours labor. Someone suggested start with the crank position sensor. $60. Another mechanic looked at and said its a fuel line problem. He thinks not enough fuel getting to the starter making it struggle.
Today I opened up the tank switched it to run and saw the fuel regulator squirting gas out. So I swapped that and the fuel filter out. Filter was gunked up pretty good.
I put it all back together and it's still doing the crank and grinding noises when trying to start up while the engine is still hot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look carefully at the fuel lines for any pin-holes. They cause leaks and then your fuel system can't pressurize as it should.

Is there a way to pressure test the hoses to look for a leak?

First look to see you you throwin any codes.. mine did when I had the pin hole in the fuel line.. Also one good way to check if that's the prob... Fill your tank and if all is good and then anywhere from 60 -100 milen into that full tank you start getting a miss,, then, the pin hole is prob the issue...

Now the Grinding issue on start up could be and is Probable your Comp. If it is --- put the newer SE comp back in to eliminate future issues on that one..

do a search on google and you'll find Many---Many links you help you figure out and solve your issues.
