Default Fuel flow issues

Today's the day! Trying to start after sitting 8 yrs. I am not drawing gas from tank. Drained it checked out petcock, all clear, saw I did not connect vapor line. I connected to rear as in photo, is this correct? Still not drawing fuel to carb...I no this petcock is not the best setup but I want to go with what I got here and get this beast running. Any help?

If you have a vacuum operated petcock it won't pass fuel until the motor is spinning.
Either with the starter or running on it's own.

Is vapor hose connected correct? If I I keep turning starter it should draw then? Should it take long?

I haven't had a vacuum operated petcock in years so I don't remember what they look like but there is only one place to hook up the line.
It should then go to a T junction that connects to the VOES and the intake.

It shouldn't take long.

If I were you I'd chuck that damn thing a get a free flow petcock.
If you want a cheap one they can be had for about $25.
If you want a good one get a Pingel.

Those damn vacuum ones are way more trouble than they are worth IMO.

Ok, got fuel to carb. Choked it, hit the starter, ran for a minute and died......

Should I have to hold choke out? It started again, had to hold onto choke, ran smoothly at high idle then just died out.

Hey from a fellow Pittsburgher. How did you get the gas to the carb? I've been running the same vacuum gas valse on my 97 since it was new. If the bike sat for a while, you may want to drain the tank and check the fuel filter inside the tank to ensure that the ethynol hasn't clogged it up.

Hello Chaz, I just kept turning starter and it began to draw fuel. I already drained tank and removed petcock to check for sludge. That's when I discover vacuum line was not connected. 1997 FLHTC ....do you need to hold choke out? I've got it to start a few times, runs at high idle with choke held out then just dies out.

The choke should stay out until you push it in.
With the stock ignition module it takes a few minutes for the engine to warm up enough to stay running without the choke.
