Thinking about installing a side mount plate and started wondering if it was legal or better yet will I get hassled. I decided to call the DMV no help there, they suggested called the Highway Patrol. The person wha answered asked one of the Deputy's and of course it was no surprise that he said it had to be mounted directly in back of the bike (could have bet on that one)!!!!
Checked Kansas Statutes and it is vague at best. My question, has anyone had any problems from local law enforcement regarding the location of the plate? I was looking at Big Dog and they use a side mount plate on a production bike and are sold in Kansas, so waht gives.
As you can tell I'm just a little paranoid!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about Kansas but it is supposedly illegal in Indiana. The local LEO, I heard there were a couple that hassled the plate mount until their co-workers told them to lighten up on the bikers that had them. There are a lot of LEO's that ride and I think that is where that came from. Of course this is all second hand information. I have a buddy with a custom that has his plate mounted this way and that is what he told me.
