OK, it's one more upgrade for the winter. I just want to get things done so when time comes I can ride.....ride.....ride.....
Question: I am considering putting the Heavy Breather Air on myself. Will I need to remap? Given: I have already have the SEII High Flow and did the Stage I upgrade. As for my pipes I have V&H short shots. This seems very simple to me. I have done other simple upgrades.
This winter mods completed:
3" Tank Lift Kit
3" Risers
Front Fork Brace
Battery Tender Pigtail
The instructions tell you that you must remap. Not true, just replace what you have. The heavy breather is basically the same as what you have now except it looks cooler. IMO. Good luck.
If you have a stage 1 upgrade on the ecm already, I would not remap.
The only benefit to remapping would be if you took it too a dyno tuner and had it done, you may get an extra horsepower or 2 out of it, and its just not worth it. The main reason you want a remap is to richen the engine up to help it not run to lean, however you stated you already have put a stage 1 upgrade on the ecm, this is all you need.
This is what the dealer calls a stage 1 upgrade.
Free breathing air cleaner.
Free breathing exhaust.
Rejetted carburetor or remapped EFI.
Upgraded ignition (if require*).

Ok now a different question: (sorry for the stealing the thread for a minute)
I have a 08 Deluxe, I've been told and read that if I keep the stock exhaust and put a stage one A/C on, the ECM on the 08's will automatically compensate for the extra air. What's your opinion guys?
have you already had the bike remapped as part for your stage 1 upgrade? If so you'll be fine. If not you will need either a download or a tuning device. You were not specific about what was included in you stage one upgrade above.
all I want to do ...at this time...is put a ness big sucker on a stock bike. Not changing a thing else.. I have read in two different sources now that the 08 and later ecm will automatically compensate for the air cleaner. No download required. Just trying to find out if anyone else has the same info.

If all you change is the Air filter a remap is not needed on an 08, because it uses 02 sensors to regulate its air fuel mixture. If you change the exaust and the air filter then a remap is needed, because the stock ecm does not have that big enough of a window to operate in to richen up the air fuel mixture to where it needs to be on exaust and filter change. 02 sensor bikes are superior to non 02 bikes like mine on keeping the engine where it needs to be for performance and fuel economy.
Just remember you can't take in more air if the exaust won't get rid of it in a normally aspirated engine.
