Lot of work there but you should be able to bring it back. I would go black powder coat.

I'd hate to hear that in spring, when it's time to get out and ride, your still working on your little bastard and only motorcycle.

good advice there. start a "wish list" for the bastard, in order of priority. have a budget in mind and just start knockin the list down until you reach budget.

diving in to a big project can be overwhelming...i know for sure i'd need a list in front of me.

I always make a list of parts needed and work to be done in a priority order. Hang them on the wall in the garage and cross things off as you get them/finish them.

i'd love to have a project like that
i really like the custom built softails where they mount the rear fender to the swingarm instead of the frame. the fender is always really close to the tire. im thinking maybe a bobber type with this type of rear section, but i am an aggressive rider and i want more seat then a little one with 2 springs on it.....the wheels are turning. one of my best friends owns Penn Jersey cycles in Levittown PA. since i am going to use him to send the frame and tins out for paint or powdercoat, i am going to stop by there on monday for ideas also. he has some sick powdercoat finishes that are way cooler then paint.

Seriously, you going to strip and powdercoat the engine as well (primary cover, cylinders, rocker box covers, etc.)? Definitely needs it but likely that would run into some major $$$. I'm asking because I'm interested in the cost of custom powdercoating engine components.

Good luck. Definitely post "AFTER" pics.
not sure on the engine yet. i hear someone makes an epoxy krinkle paint that works just as well on the engine. i will surely take off the rockers and some of the other parts, but if i can get away without totally disassembling the complete motor, that would make this go a bit faster. we'll see how it goes though. i don't want to compromise quality for quickness. if it has to come totally apart it will...........

Hell of a deal on that bike. I would of hoped all over that for 5 g's. I would pull it all apart, and send the parts all off for black powdercoat. You can pick up a real nice take off set of tins on ebay for about $500 bucks. I bet if you watch your money you can have the bike looking beautiful for 3 grand. Good Luck! Keep us updated.

#1....Id look at a paint set off fo ebay...you dont know how much bondo that orange paint is hiding. You could get a take off set cheaper than a custom paint job & have some spare parts left over
