I'm thinking of putting an engine guard on my '98 FXSTC. I'd like to hear from anyone who has one on a Custom, comments, concerns, problems etc... I'd also appreciate pics if anyone has them. I've seen a few here and there and looked through the gallery but didn't get enough quality shots of them to decide if i like the look. I will say that despite the looks i need to stretch out a bit more, so that may not be a factor in the end. It seems like this would be my best option. Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.
Thanks guys.
I also say don't do it, I don't think they look good on our bikes. I recently got and installed the control extensions (3") and it stretches you out nicely if thats what you're looking for.
Thanks for the thoughts guys. I have considered the control extensions. I thought it might be nice to be able to change positions once in a while and the bar offers that. I'm not too sure about the looks of one on a Custom either. Thats why i'm hoping someone will have some good shots of theirs.
My 99 FXSTC had one on it when I got it. I have not used the pegs much, as I just cannot get used to having my feet out that far. I have adjusted the pegs up and down to try different positions, but not really comfortable for me. If the pegs would fit to the inside of the bar, I think they might work OK, but then they are in the way of the brake pedal. I do like the bar for protection in case the bike ever goes down though. And I do not mind the look. Here is a few pictures. Not to good of the bar though.
I admit I'm not crazy about the look of the engine guards on my 07 FXSTC, but love being able to stretch out on the highway. They've given my knees probably an extra hour riding time before I have to call it a day.
I don't have any pics with the highway pegs on, but I put on the HD 360 pegs, and love how adjustable they are. The pics I have were taken on the day between putting the guards on and installing the pegs.
They're pretty easy to take off.
The guards were a gift from my wife. I probably would have gone the mustache bar route myself.
