You know alot of guys are running an aftermarket exhaust with no aftermarket fuel management system with no problems yet. Why not get the pipes now, enjoy them for a bit, and just make the fuel management system the next mod on your list and start saving. If you're in a snowy area you might have the fuel management system on before you even get out there, and if you're not, I am sure you can get the system before you have racked to many miles up on it if you are worried.

Just FYI, my 08 Rocker showed up here a month ago, it has a Screaming Eagle air cleaner, and Python slip on exhaust pipes and no fuel management system. It has 9500 miles on it and I have no idea when the previous owner did the mods or if it had a management system on it and he took it off and sold it seperately, so I know where you are coming from, I am a little worried about this issue as well.

Stay off the GXSR, lol, I can show you body scars I probably never would have gotten with my Harley. A Harley is about enjoying the ride, scenery, and life in general, everytime I got on my rocket it was about trying to push it to the max and past my capabilities. Had the accident doing a wheelie and hit some loose gravel in a t-shirt and sandles, damn stupid... Don't know to many guys out trying to do wheelie's with their Harley's, lol...

If your putting out the coin to get the pipes, grab a fuel management pack and tune it. You will appreciate the extra-torque and hp...

I wouldn't worry to much about lame comments by some guys hiding on the other side of a computer, you will get that on any forum.

Most of the loud mouths are guys trying to portray an image on here (or other forums) of something they can't be in real life. Don't take it too heart.

I have had very few ever try to step up in real life and say the things people on here seem so quick to throw at you, don't let it bother you. It's always safer when a fist can't come through the computer and knock a couple of your teeth out.

I know your fustrations and I have had many since buying my Rocker. Nothing seems to fit, even stuff that will we are told won't, and the list goes on.

RockerD, you started this with a loaded statement saying "you're thinking about going back to the metric" thing, so you've got to expect some flaming from people. Most of us here are die-hard Harley lovers and that's all there is to it. If you're truely looking for an answer to your question as a couple of people above have stated, just pipes, nothing else needed, pipes and high-flow air cleaner, fuel management system or dealer re-flash is required.

If you look on ebay you can find a Dyno-jet PC-III for about $200 or a little over. If you are worried then go this route and use a map off of Dyno-jets website.
I changed my stock mufflers out for Cycle shack slip ons and did not do a thing to the ECM. However when I went to a SE air breather I knew it was time to richen up things then, I waited till I found a good deal on a PC-III and got it, programmed it myself (very simple to do). No dyno and no special knowledge needed.
When I first did the pipes everyone was mixed on opinions here, I did not touch the ECM. Then I got the new breather and I got the PC-III. Everyone said get a fuel management system, when I got it then people started telling me not to use the maps on dynojets website, I was told to pay $300 for a custom map from a reputable dyno man (it seems like a never ending story of spending money if you listen to all). I drawed the line there and said "NO". The map on Dyno-jets website is all I need for a stock engine. Hope you stay with the Harley family, don't be discouraged.

And by the way, THE DEALER is all about the money, and you will get more misinformation from them than you ever will here.

Rocker, don't worry about what that guy says, everyone is braver when they have a keyboard in front of them.

Here is my $.02, I've built a number of cars and trucks and a couple of bikes. Now, I'm no mechanic and sometimes have to rely on others opinions also. But, here is what I have learned, cheaper costs you more. What I mean by that is not doing something right the first time will just cost you more to fix in the end. I have two bikes, a Deuce and a Super Glide, when I changed the pipes on both I just went ahead and put the SC air cleaner and Vanes and Hines tuner on both of them. You know your going to want to change the air cleaner eventually anyway, just do it right and get it over with, you'll be happy you did.

As for Harley being the best, well, I don't know about that, but I can tell you this, I worked on a buddies Ducati and I'll take the Harley any day over that thing. What a pain and the quality is no where near the Harley. Good luck.

I always believed that Harleys are a way of life - not just the ride! So swap out for a peach tin. I've got a '72 Honda C70 that I'll part-exchange you! No re-mapping required!
