Default Handlebar installation

Hi, Mr. UPS dropped my new Carlini Clean Sweep 1.7 / 7" at the door today! The handlebar will be installed on a Fatboy lo.

I am debating if I should try to install the handlebar by myself or just ask my local dealer. I'll rather save the money ( and buy more stuff ) and do it myself but not sure how difficult the task is. I did buy wire extension just in case.

Anyone of you has experience replacing handlebar?

A few questions come in my mind:
- Do I need to cut wire to re-run the existing wires?
- Do I need to remove the tank?

Thanks for any advices/suggestions.

There's a bunch of info on here. Do a quick search for any questions you have. Yes, by all means do it yourself, but do yourself a huge favor and pick up the service manual. You're gonna need it.

I didn't have to take my tank off. Disconnect the quick connect and the overflow, take the bolts off the front and rear and slide it back. Pleanty of room.

Do not cut the wires. Disconnect them from the Deutsch connector and feed the pins through the bars. I think your stock wires will be long enough.

Good luck and have fun.

Check out this tutorial for apes on a Dyna. It should be pretty much the same, just different bars. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...e-install.html

Buy a manual, take you're time, and spend that extra cash on another mod. It's not as bad as it seems. I put mine on and the worst part of it was finding the right size pin/pick to get the pins out of the connectors. I put on the Street Slammers from HD and did not need any extra wire or longer clutch/throttle cables. I did swap out the brake line tho.

If I had to do it again, I would have replaced all the way to the plugs and not soldered and spliced. I used speaker wire to run the wires through. I did mine and now I have a short. Spliced and shrink wrapped. New switches ordered, gonna replace all the wires.

Do not cut the wires take the pins out from the connectors and slip a guide wire through the bars tape the wires to the guide wire stagering the pins along the guide wire so they will fit through the holes on the bars. Not that hard to do just take your time and make a diagram of which color wire goes into which hole on the connector and taking pictures before removing things helps to Good Luck

Thanks for the great advices, very helpful for me. With all that snow here in Ohio, I can take all the time I need to install my new handlebar.
