Problem with V&H Duals on my Heritage
I can't get the left side of the exhaust to be symmetrical with the right side. The left side will not come down low enough. Is anyone else having this issue with the V&H duals, and do the Samson Duals have a better fit? If you have any experience with either of these exhaust systems on your Softail, I'd like your input. Thanks.
I did not have any real trouble with mine, but I did loosen the left at least once to get it symetrical with the right. The only thing I can think of to do, and you have probably already done this, and that is to loosen ALL bolts/nuts on the left side, place a block under the left muffler at the height at which you want it to hang and start tighening from the back and work your way to the front as you go. If that does not work, repeat and start from the front and work your way back, or even the middle until you get it right.
Nice mufflers by the way...how did you affix them to the brackets supplied with the V&H pipes? Were they a direct bolt-on? Could this be your problem as they are not the stock V&H mufflers that come with the kit? Good Luck! ...let us know how it goes.

I've had the left side loose at least 4 or 5 times. I just can't get it to drop down. I'll probably take it to my dealer and let those guys do it. I gotta be missing something stupid. Won't be the first time.
I like those white bags you have. I've been looking at those myself.
My mufflers are from Dennis Corso www.denniscorso.com . They're 50s style reproductions. Only cost $250.00 for the pair, including shipping. I bought the stock muffler brackets from a 2007 Springer and attached the new mufflers with stainless "P" clamps just like they did back when. Corso has the clamps too.
The left side of my exhaust was high even before I changed mufflers. So that's not the problem. I'm probably not loosening the nuts at the exhaust flange enough for the pipe to be able to move freely. I stripped the threads on one of the bolts once, so I'm a little afraid to mess with them.
Thanks for answering me. At least now I know that it's probably not a problem with the pipes.

Thanks Tom. That looks just like my bracket. The whole left side exhaust sets about 2 inches higher than the right. The left side was installed by my dealer and has never been right. I'll take it back to them and let it be their problem. I installed the right side but was starting to bugger the threads on the motor on the left side, so I had my dealer finish the job. I had them do the 1000 mile check up and the stage one download at the same time. They picked the bike up at my house for free, and charged me about a half hour of labor for the exhaust work, so I was reluctant to bitch about it being crooked. If they can't get it right I'll go to a different exhaust system. Probably put the stock pipes back on with some slip ons. I hope the dealer can fix this because I kind of like my old school mufflers.
Thanks again for the picture and your help.

Yea, it sounds to me like they just need to loosen the pipe at the bracket then push down the pipe. The pipe should be parallel with the top of the primary cover.
This is really kind of weird that it would still be able to bolt everything together even though it's not installed correctly.
Really they should have snugged the pipe at the head, kept the mounting clamp loose, then mounted the rear bracket. Then go back and tighten at the head then tighten the clamp at the passenger peg. Go figure...
Good luck.
Tom
