Default Bike shutting off at operating temp..

I am posting this for a friend of mine. he has a 96 Heritage, and two things...1) When the bike seems to get to operating temps, sometimes the bike will just shut down while driving. he said that he will turn the ignition switch off, and then back on, it will fire up and run for a while....2) Once again at operating temps, the rear cylinder will shut down. I told him to check his plugs and wires for this. But the whole bike shutting down stumps me.....Any ideas, or has this happened to anyone.....Thanks for your input...From a fellow rider from the Touring section....lol

Sounds like an elecrtrical problem as opposed to fuel.
Maybe ignition coil or module, good luck.

Similiar to another post just listed in the past couple of days. May be the temp sensor between the 2 heads. I am also having the same problem.

My '95 Ultra acted exactly like this. Temp Sensor was going bad. Mine would intermittantly quit after it warmed up. It would be going down the road fine and then all of a sudden it acted like the ignition was shut off. Well its not the ignition, its the fuel injection that is shutting down. Have the dealer run it for a code. Its probably set for a temp sensor problem.

There's no sensor on 96 Heritage, no injection.

Could it be the crank position sensor?

Friend of mine had similar symptoms on his BMW and turned out it was that bit. Would fail at operating temperature and restart no problem to fail again or start running ragged a bit later.

Sorry I didn't know where all the Sensors and Fuel Injections started on the Softtails.

One way to check is to get a hairdryer and direct it right at the ignition module right at startup. This will simulate the heat generated as if you were riding for a while, just at a faster pace. If the bike shuts down faster than it usually does, the module is shot and needs replacement. This will save you some time and some cash if you were to let a dealer try to figure it out.

I have the same problem and have checked around and it seems to be the main circuit breaker is going bad. I am waiting for my new Breaker and will see if that fixes my problem. I also have a carb and have no temp sensor. As soon as the breaker is installed I will put it on the Twin Scan by Daytona and see if there are any Trouble Codes.
