Unfortunately for me I live in Alberta, where snow and ice has the body shops around here raking in on insurance claims from the horrible drivers everywhere and most of them don't seem real interested in the smaller jobs like this.

I found a shop advertising on a site like Craigslist here that said they would do it for 700 but that I had to have the dents repaired first as they don't have the tools and they didn't want to use bondo on the tank because of the vibrations. Still trying to get a quote on that.

Do they make a decent gun that would work for this type of application that doesn't require an air compressor?[/QUOTE]

Ive never seen a gun that doesnt require an air compressor besides a rattle can.. Do you have any local technical colleges in your area that has auto body? If you do take it to them and see if they will paint it.. It shouldnt cost you much besides materials that way

This may sound crazy, but do a search on google or youtube for rustolium roll on paint jobs. No kidding these guys are painting their rides with a paint brush and roller then wet sanding them. I know this sounds crazy but give it a shot, see what you think. Please post pics of whatever you decide to go with.

Give it a shot yourself. Live and learn. If it turns out like crap, take it to the pros. What about powdercoating??? Either way, good luck!!

go for it, if you havent got a compresser then go pick up a cheap 5 or 10 gallon one, and a paint sprayer, get the paitn ya want mix it accordingly and try ti out on some scrap paint * gogole is your friend for tips on painting*

fill the quarter sized dent with bondo smooth it out and prepscuff the surface and prime, then do your color shoot, or take ithe tins to the local HS or techinical college with the materials you want used *good 2 stage primer, base color and a satin or matte clear coat* and talk to the shop teacher about gettin one of the students to do it for next to nothing

im surprised very few people think of that option, i had my old p/u stripepd to bare metal, soem rust spots ground out and replaced with real sheet metal, and painted properly by the local HS shop class for the cost of materials

I am actually attending a tech school right now so I am going to check them out. Otherwise, after reading the post on Russ Wernimont Designs coming out with a rear fender kit ($926 for the short fender kit) to rival Heartland's, it is decided. I am getting that kit this fall. The money I save now will pay for the kit this fall, plus it would cost more then half the price of the kit to get the new fender painted and a waste of money for the one on it now. If the paint turns out good I will do the new fender in the fall, if not, I will have more time to shop around and get the whole bike painted this fall.
