Rather then a full disassebly as per the manual?

no, Im not cutting corners, I just dont see why I have to tear apart the whole fork and tube, when I just have to remove the caps, and pull out the springs.

the stock fork springs are probably 30" or so and there is only one spring in a stock set up. so you have to get the forks low enough that you can get out the spring a put new ones in. that is why you'll have to take the front tire, brake caliber, and forks off the bike. on top of the triple tree there is a cap that screws into another cap. you have to remove both caps to get to the spring. and the spring won't fit thought the top triple tree hole because it's way to small. you don't have to disassemble the whole forks just have to be able to get the spring out of them. on a dyna i think you can just take the cap off while the forks are still on the bike but not on a wide glide narrow frontend like the fxst and fxstb's. i'm not sure about the wide frontends that are on the fatboys and so on if you can pull the springs from the top of the trible trees.

There you go! It's just better doing it the right way and taking a little more time.

See the space you are working with... And mine are aftermarket trees witch have even more room between them.

You can use the pinch bolt to help you with removal of the caps...

Start to finsh on one sunday... swapped rotors, fork tubes, remove and install sliders, stem bearing, rear tire and the lowering kit...

So you trying to skip taking the tubes out is CUTTING cornings???

Thank you TONNS!

But did you remove the sliders and everything? like the Repair manual says? or did you just drop the forks down to the bottom tree, and pinch it tight again?

I imagine Ill have to remove the forks from the tree completely to install the springs.

I have a bike jack, so I can get it up about 18" from the ground.

I hope Im not coming across as ignorant.

no you don't have to take the sliders and everything part. if you look at the above pics you can see the spring popping out of the top of the fork. that spring is about 30 inches long or so and you have to pull it out. and then put in a shorter spring, then a washer, then another spring, then a washer, then pvc pipe, then a washer then put the 1st cap back on the fork. slide it up into the upper triple tree and bolt it all back down. (i might have out the pvc and short spring mixed up, since it's been a few months since i did mine and don't have the directions in front of me).

On the old progressive drop kits you had to take part the tubes and the sliders. With the new drop in lowering kit you don't have to. But you will have to take the tubes out of the trees.

It will come with instructions... if not or you wanna brush up before hand check here... and dowload the instructions... I just wanted you to see that, once you do it right and you have everything you need you can almost do everything in a day... So take your time and don't rush. You'll be just fine!
