Default Oil Change Question ???

Have an '08 Softail Custom with 2800 miles. Had the 1000 mile checkup with oil change in May of 2009. My question is....Should I change the oil now, as the bike has been sitting all winter or can I safely wait until 5000 miles when it's due for a checkup ?

So if you already have 1800 miles on Harley dino oil I would say change it and put some good synthetic like amsoil or Mobil 1 vtwin. IMHO 4k is too long to go between changes on a bike that is not ridden much. I change at 2500 miles using synthetic. But as they say, opinions are like a$$holes everybodys got one....and you'll get plenty here.

I changed my oil out at the 1000 service mark with HD dino oil. At 5000k I changed to Mobil 20-50 vtwin and change it every 5k regardless of any other factors. So to answer your question I would wait till 5k.

I agree with luvtoride. get a quality syn. oil in there. I change mine every spring and never go 5k before a change. some will say this is pointless and maybe it is, but oil is cheap my scoot aint.

I agree somewhat, I always try to change it before winter winter layup, but then in the spring I don't change it till the 5k mark.

JMHO

Btw- I use the regular M1 20w50

I recommend redline oil. I always use synthetic and tried mobil 1 and amsoil in the past, but I just switched to redline and I'm pretty happy with it. Gear shifts are much smoother/quieter. If you go to the oil forum on here you'll read a lot about it...something about how it's the only class 5 oil...blah blah blah. They have v-twin power packs, one stop shop for all three fluids.
