How are the BSS for the passenger? From the length, it would seem like they were fine running down the road, but at a stop, the passenger is right over the ends. Just wondering about the sound and the exhaust fumes bothering the wife.
I have the BSS's on my 04 Fatboy (95CI, Mikuni carb, 251 cam). I have forcing cones at the head for some backpressure and am running without the baffles. Best damn sound a Harley could make. The crossover in these pipes mellows the sound in my opinion.
I'm not a RPM demon. I enter/exit neighborhoods at lower RPM/higher gears to be considerate. I don't want to lose the 'privelege' of having open pipes. I have never had a complaint about sound level from passenger, police or folks standing by. Most seem to like the sound at idle...but do a 'burnout' on the street in the neighborhood and you'll get one of two salutes...one with a raised beer, or another with a raised middle finger...
I have the Python Staggard duals which are the same as the V&H bigshots. They are not too loud at all. I have some friends that have V&H longshots without baffles and Hookers without baffles and they are much louder. I was going to order the quiet baffles with mine but decided to wait until I heard them on my bike. Glad I did because they are not too loud at all.
Pipes will always be subjective. Some will say to loud, some will say to quiet. Some will say the pitch is just right and others will say that it sucks. Its all a personal choice of sound mixed with style. I love the look and the sounds of the Big Shot Staggard pipes. If someone doesnt like them, well they dont have to ride my bike so they dont have to like them. As long as im not being a dumb A$$ and pissing off my neighbors then theres no problem.
My bike came with LOUD pipes, told my wife I was going to tone it down, she said "like Heck". 1 Month later, you would have to kill me to take my pipes away....
I have the pipes with quiet baffles, SEAC, and did the SERT and Dyno and got just under 79HP and just under 79 Torque....which is about as high as I have ever seen for Stage 1. This was done after the Quiet baffles were installed.
That is a great Dyno run. V&H will say 8-12 hp gain. I hear that Harleys rear wheel hp will vary a lot right from the factory. Some as low as 60 hp at the rear wheel. You got a good one I would say.

My wife has not been on the bike since I put the new pipes on so I don't have an answer yet. I will give her ear plugs and also take it easy on the first few rides.
I did order the quite baffels just in case I need them down the road.
