Arrow X Bones & other springers

I currently have an '09 Fat Bob. I am seriously considering switching to the X Bones. I have only ridden a springer for a few miles at relatively low speed. My main concern is long term and long rides. Are there any special maintenance concerns with the springer? And how well does it ride on the long haul?

Thanks up front for the info.

Rides like a dream......35k miles on my 03 and multiple long distance rides..

I will probably never own a hydraulic front end bike

I rode my bones from Corpus Christi, TX to Sturgis last year. Smooth like butter.

Agree with ^ that guy. Ive ridden mine on several long trips. once you go springer you wont go back. something about it nostalgia and look. the ride is great. plan on keeping this one forever and getting an FLSTS as a second!!

Great ride!! and smooth.
Should check the Steering head every 2500-3000 miles, easy maintenance.
And like Hspring03 I will never own a hydraulic front end bike again.

I love the look of a springer on almost any bike. I sometimes regret not buying one the first time (although I love my Fat Bob). I ride quite a bit so I MUST make sure the front end can take it. It sounds like I could def. do a springer.

Frogg: quick and dirty - how do you check the steering head?

matt: they could bring back the soft tail springer and the HD line would be just about perfect!

Mines lowered 2" in the rear and it still handles great. These bikes aren't baggers, but the ride is great.

I've ridden 480 miles in one day(that's a lot for an ole man) with not problems at all.

I just traded up from an '09 Fat Bob to a '10 Cross Bones a few weeks ago! Absolutely NO REGRETS at all. I love it! It is a totally different animal, but for my personal tastes, I like it a lot more.

The only major downside, that you will see with any Dyna/Softail comparison, is that the Cross Bones feels sluggish and slow in acceleration compared to the Fat Bob. However, the Cross Bones, is much more comfortable, and is sure a better "looker" than the Fat Bob was. Everywhere I go, I get people complementing my bike...that seemed to rarely happen with the Bob. Of course, I haven't had it long enough to give you any detail on maintenance concerns, but so far, it seems to be more comfortable in all aspects compared to the Fat Bob.

Hope that helps some...
