Default Engine heat. Does the seat help?

I mentioned in another thread that I almost went down today. Before it happened I was freakin' out about how much heat was coming off my bike. My last bike was a Dyna and I knew I was going to be sitting on the oil tank on my Heritage but I was wondering how much the seat, if any, makes a difference. I had C&C make me a custom seat to get me closer and lower and was wondering if the wider stock Heritage seat helps absorb heat. Anyone know? Has anyone changed seats and experienced any more heat? Or is it gonna be this hot no matter what seat I have? I have new V&H Bigshots, a PC and Big Sucker to make it run cooler but I couldn't believe it. Any thoughts out there? Thanks

How hot is your bike running. I ride a 05 with a C & C Fastback seat. currently a Fuel Moto Tuner, Se AC, V & H and Se 204 cams I live in the So Ca Dessert and ride to and from work at LAX. Avg temps ain summer are about 230 -250 (oil temp dipstick), once hit 280 in fwy traffic and the heat management system kicked in but any other time I never noticed the heat on the seat

I'm sorry. It's not the seat that's getting hot. I'm feeling the heat from the oil tank as the seat is so slim it is flush with the oil tank and I was wondering if a wider (for instance, the stock) seat kept the engine heat off your legs more. I didn't even ride the bike until I'd gotten the fastback seat on so don't have the comparison. I guess I could put it on and see but I wanted people who may have experienced a change of heat after exchanging from stock to something slimmer to hopefully share.

If the bike is all stock, ie exaust, air filter, and fuel management. Thats most of your issue IMO, change the above 3 things and you will notice a big change in temp. They do make heat deflecters that go before the seat, not sure where you get them as I've never needed them

If the heat youare feeling is coming from the oil tank I am not sure how much bang for buck you will get from exhaust, intake and tuner upgrades.
An oil cooler will help as long as you are moving....
A Lehnale (sp?) fan might help if your not moving....
Several places offer various styles of heat shields...
No more fried thighs (aren't they a sponser?)

Gotta be others....
With my stage 1 upgrade and semi orginal seat I only have heat issues when stuck in traffic...

the seat does not make the bike run cooler but it does effect how much of the heat you feel. i had a c&c and say low and a narrow crotch area and my *** hit the oil filler and my legs touched the head. I went to the fat wide mustang seat and now not even close to the oil or the heads.
