Default Oil Filter Help

I went to change my oil for the first time and my manual says use part number 63798-99, but the dealership gave me 63798-99A. Is the "A" just a better filter??? I can't seem to find any cross reference on the internet. I see some listings on ebay for the 63798-99A, but the listings don't say anything abou thte 63798-99. I went to take off the previous owners oil filter with the HD oil filter wrench, and the wrench is to big. This is why I am questioning what I have. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The A usually just indicates an update on the previous model...All with the same fitment information.

Also.....The previous owners filter maybe a Drag unit or another Non HD name....

You can use a strap wrench, or worse case drive a screwdriver through it and turn...

Default HD book

This is why I am confused. The 2009 HD catolog says this for filter 63798-99A

"an upgrade for any motorcycle that requires Oil Filter P/N 63796-77A, 63805-80A, 63812-90 or 63813-90."

????????????????

Hspring03 is correct.

When a part or accessory is updated Harley adds a letter (A,B,C,ect.) to show designation that the part has been change. Usually this is a very minor modification to the part. It let's us know at the dealership the part has been updated.

My manual says to use 63798-99, but I have a filter 63798-99A

When I look up the 63798-99A in the HD catalog it says the 63798-99A replaces Oil Filter P/N 63796-77A, 63805-80A, 63812-90 or 63813-90."

My manual filter of 63798-99 is not in that description.

refer to my post above.

I probably sold 30 of these filters today... The 63798-99A is the chrome filter for all 06-later big twins. Very simple.
