I had the same thing happen not long ago. it was the fork seal. I had oil everywhere.

It was the fork seal. Turns out when my mechanic took the wheel off, the right fork just dropped out. YIKES! Thankfully it was all an easy fix. Timing was good in that I was due for a 15k service anyway.

Very common, I wouldn't discard this.

Another thing could be the brake fluid from your front m/c, it leaks when over-filled, over/under torqued cap.

Color of the fluid???
