I have the removable one for my Cross Bones (black hardware version). It's a hard trade in my opinion. I do enjoy the windshield but it never fails that I if I put it on, I wish I had left it at home, and if I leave it at home, I wish I had put it on.
Here is a bad cell phone pic, only one I have w/ it on.
Bike currently looks like this, but I will be putting the windshield back on when the work is done and can post better pics at that time. Tins should get picked up in the morning and then will get it put back together.
Has anyone else put a windshield on a crossbones and if so how do you like it?
I have both the long and short versions. For long trips at high speeds, I wouldn't have anything else. They are detachable, so when you want to cruise a little around town it's about 20 seconds to detach.
I have two versions because I have two seats, one the stock seat which rides fairly high, and the other a Brawler seat that rides low.
I also sit taller in the saddle than most because of a long torso. Try the various heights of windshield if you can. Some dealers have a "windshield" tester you can experiment with.
I don't have a bones but use a "Windvest" on my Classic. I have the big H-D one as well but like the vest better as it's much smaller and actually does a better job of cutting the wind with very little buffeting.
I have one on mine (the HD short tinted kind) and I really like what it does for me on those long rides and on my daily commutes. I may get the taller one down the road however as the low one is a bit too low. I am 5' 9" and I have a 1925 seat which has about 1 1/2" inches less of padding than the stock seat and I still sit high enough that the wind catches me right at my eye line. I either have to duck forward a bit or sit way back. Or in some cases the wind is calm enough that it doesn't matter but it is all hit or miss. I am sure that the tall one would remedy everything but I will just wait till I have to replace the lexan.
As for looks? That is all up to you and I wouldn't worry too much about what others may think so long as it makes you enjoy the ride better. I say that if you are even considering getting one and asking about them then you probably need to get one. You can check out some pics of my Bones with a windshield on my profile page if you like.
Yupper I finally broke down and bought one after condemning them for years. A very long ride in driving rain, sleet and other crap made me pull the trigger. But it is detachable and I don't use it everyday: only on long trips of over 200 miles or so.
