cool idea. i bet you could make your own baffle by getting the pipe from muffler shop and have them stretch or reduce it to a 1.75 and then use automotive freeze plug and drill our like the second picture.
i just saw more mods on the link. http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/98/105/
I can see how the second idea might help but also see how it would probably crack and break soon if they are just bent to the L shape. Applying heat then bending would probably minimize the chance of them breaking soon. I'm confused about why the brass would be better than steel in the OP's opinion.
I can also see how using a different bracket material in the first place would be stronger and just as effective.
First I'd like to thank everyone for your replies . Especially TK353: Pretty ingenious! I'd forgotten I'd started this post and hadn't checked it in a while so I wasn't aware of all the activity.
I took the bike out yesterday and rode to Ojai and Santa Barbara. Great ride. Went about 250 miles and I've gotta say, even with foam earplugs in both ears (which I've always worn even before these pipes) I was worn out from the loudness. I've formerly been in rock bands (where I discovered the effectiveness of earplugs) so I'm no stranger to loud. I felt beat up. I had almost the identical set-up on my Streetbob with the Power Commander, K&N A/C (instead of a Big Sucker) and Short Shots. Not NEARLY as loud. Didn't bother me at all and, as I said in my original post, I was mistaken when I assumed the Big Shots would be quieter being further from my ears. Maybe they just hit one of the few frequencies I can still hear.
I called Smartzpartz today and they told me that they reduce the sound level by about 5 to 6 dbs or almost 30%. I'm gonna give 'em a try unless someone out there has a better suggestion.
Don't get me wrong, the pipes sound awesome and are the best looking pipes for a Heritage in my opinion but I've gotta do something......
If anyone has or knows of anyone with the Smartzpartz baffles please let me know your opinion. And again, thanks everyone for chimin' in!

do you always run your windshield because that will def make it louder
No such thing as too loud. Not loud enough?! yes, but too loud?! that doesn't exist.
I wish i had pipes made by Zeus himself . Then I could explode cars with my pipes when i pass by them,or at least shatter there windows, or make birds fall from the sky, or change the form of the clouds, or make it rain while its still sunny outside
I have run the v&h big shotlongs on my last two bikes and love them. I made a mistake and wanted a change and went with the v&h big radius 2 in to 2 chrome and don't like mine, but they look great on the bike. I think they are way to quiet. The longshots are a louder pipe. If you think you might want the big radius pipes then hit me up and let talk.
Thanks.
i just finished my custom set of baffles and i got the right loudness, TQ, and HP.
total cost was about $30 for the pair, 7 more for the packing. i had 16 in baffles and lost HP and sound was ok. i had 4 in baffles and lost some TQ and a little loud. now i made 6 in baffles @ 1.75 in and the sound TQ and HP are all there. i went from 60 mph to 70 mph uphill with just 30% throttle. make friends with the independent muffler shop.
Should've done my homework. I had V&H Shortshots on my Streetbob and, for some reason, thought that the Big Shots would be quieter since the ends are further back on the bike. So I just got them installed on my new (to me) '07 Heritage. They have the "quiet baffles" like the Shortshots on my SB but they ain't quiet. Much louder than the Shortshots. They look great but not what I expected. Anybody have V&H Double Barrels they want to trade me? They're brand spanking new. Not a scratch.
man... I wish I would have read this thread a few weeks back. I just had a set put on my FB... I am supposed to pick it up on friday. the wife is probably not going to be happy if they're obnoxiously loud...
