Default Detachable Side plates/Sissy Bar Install

I have a '06 Fatboy CVO and just purchased all I need to install the detachable sissybar, etc. First, can anyone tell me the steps I should take? Is the turn signal relocation the first step? Also, this is the step that seems the most complicated. Should this be done by a dealer or is it easy to do on your own? Thanks for the help.

I was just researching this as well. I don't have the parts on hand yet, but the instructions for the docking hardware for the sissy bar said you should first install the signal relocation kit.

Relocate signals, put on detachable hardware, put on sissy bar.

when i put mine on, i didn't mess with the turn signal relocation. i took a dremel and ground away the part of the side plate that was in the way. made it slip right over the stock turn signals. had it on there for 4 years with no problems whatsoever. plus, the relocation kit leaves a bit to be desired in the looks dept, in my opinion.

Same here grimm. Took a dremel and cut off the bump that would hit the signal. I put some chrome paint on the edge to keep it from rusting. It has worked just fine, the lock for the mounting hardware has no issues clearing the signal. This is alot cheaper and easer in the long run.

Turn signals first. Just follow the directions in the kit. I tried to remove the pins from the signal connectors to avoid cutting and splicing the wires, it didn't work. The pins are too fat to fit thru the signal mounts. I soldered and shrink wrapped them. I don't like butt connectors where they might get wet.
