Guys,
Getting different opinions on this one. I was told when I bought my 09 Fatboy (fuel injected) that I should first turn on the tank ingnition switch and then turn the handlebar switch to RUN (this primes the fuel pump) and when the yellow engine light shuts off (meaning the fuel lines are charged and ready to go) then hit the start button. Others have said that I should just leave the handlebar switch always on RUN and just use the ignition switch to turn the bike on and off because of the way that the ECM learns about idle position/RPM, etc. I was told by the dealer that shutting the bike on and off this way (with just the ignition switch) would cause damage to the electronics. What is everyone else doing?
What does the owners manual say? When motor is idling, flip off the handlebar ignition switch, then turn off the tank main switch. The guys that tell you to turn off the tank switch only probably had the motor revving when they flipped off the handlebar kill button. That is where the ECM learns that idle is high rpm. HTH
