Hey guys. I'm new here and have a general question about the rocker. I'm wondering if the license plate mount acts as a tail light or brake light, or does it just illuminate the plate? Also, do the turn signals act as brake lights or just turn signals? Thanks.
The license plate mount acts as a running light and plate illiuminator. The tail lights act as turn signals and brake lights.
Thanks. So I guess my question is, if I get a side mount license plate bracket, do I need to get the one with the light on it or can I get the one without? I prefer the one without but I just want to make sure I have all of my lights required. I don't want to lose anything by doing this. I'm out of the country and pick up my bike next week but wanted to go ahead and order the bracket so that's why I'm asking. Thanks.

You can choose either option, however choosing one with a light on it maybe preferred for the legal reasons (depending on the state you live in of course) in addition you should verify if your state will allow a vertical or horizontal plate as well.
That being said, there are several options for the side mount plate, vertical, horizontal, or curved. Listed are a few componies that make both: the Roto-plate has a nice piece, and so does Heartland Biker, and even Kuryakyn. Use the "search" tool, you'll find many options.

Most city Ordinances say that motorcycle plates need to be visible at all times so, it would be safe to say, get a side mount with a running light on it.

Any plate holder you get will at least need light to illuminate the license plate. The reason I got mine with the running light also is the more light the more observable at night. Peopl don't always look for motorcycles.
I used a side mount kit without a light and then bought licence plate bolts with built in LEDs. Work great and look awesome. Found them on E-bay cheap. Unless you really look hard they look like regular bolts but are bright at night.
I guess I should clarify a little. I'm referring to the brake/tail light on the mounts; not the license plate illumination light. Obviously I would get one that illuminates the plate; it's the other light that I don't want.
