Love the fishtails but they do rob power. They may not rob power compared to a stocker but if you have a built motor and compare any good performing pipes against the fishtails you will see they rob power....particularly with long duration cams. The reason is the opening causes standing waves (reversion) in the pipes and subsequently hurts velocity and port fill. Guys will claim different based on 'seat of the pants' dyno but I have yet to see anyone post real dyno sheets to the contrary. Now, having said that, I am running fishtails and will continue to do so. But I will not build my motor until I am ready to give up on the fishtails. Just my .02...YMMV.
well i have been running fishtails for over two years and i never felt that i lost any power at all. even if so it would not make a difference to me. where are we all going with all this power.all it is is an ego thing you get to turn it loose every now and then but unless your pinl slip is on the line it really makes no difference

I have always felt the same way but we'll see how I feel when my D&D fatcat arrives.
i was running Vance and hines fishtails i felt no loss of power.i did notice that the opening on V&H tails is much bigger than Samson and this could be a factor. I am finishing my install of the Samson tails tonight and then a friend is putting it on his lap top for tweaking. Ill know for sure after this install it seems it could be the case with samson pipes more so then the vance and hines. the other thing is that after any install of exhaust you may need a tweak to the system if that was not done and correctly there would be no doubt a loss in power. It dont take much, when i was running the regular baffles that came with the V&H pipes it ran like crap. i installed the quite baffles with out the packing and it ran well i needed the back pressure
I checked American Classic before i placed my order and they were no where near that 524 dollar make for a full system. I paid $705.00 for a set of 36 inch mini cholos with a chrome flange kit and shipping included from a close friend., I do not think you will find them for less than seven hundred and may not even be able to find them at that price. I should have mine installed by the weekend plan on working on them Thursday evening or Friday when i have the day off
Nikon, sir im new here and im hoping i could ask/confirm some info since i also have a deluxe 07 and looking to install some items that u have...

Vance and Hines are not going to rob as much power as Samsons. I have seen dyno sheets on Samsons and believe me...they don't compare power wise to a good perfoming pipe. But, IMHO, Samson has the best looking fishtail made. Its a trade-off. Just like a good 2-1 makes more power...its a trade-off. My guess is with a build like you have you with a Fat Cat and dyno tune you would be looking at 105 HP at the rear wheel...maybe a few more. With the Samsons and a good dyno tune you will probably be making 90 at best. But 90 HP is a lot of power...way more than stock.
I can't wait to see pics of the new Samsons. I am getting ready to buy the same set. I am just collecting some cash from selling a few parts.
If you are considering fishtails, you are looking for the right look rather than to set any land speed records. I went back and forth on whether to get them to the end of my fender or go all the way with the Cholo's. Since I wanted to be different and you don't see them here in the Phoenix area, I went all the way. I'm happy with them and love the look.
Many thanks for all the advice/help guys, just ordered a set of the samson true duals, had to go for 23.5's longtails as The UK's roads are a little different to the US, ie Sh#t, potholes, speedbumps etc etc major risk of catching the longtails if i went any longer.
