As many of you know after 32 years of being a stone mason I have a back that is wiped out.
I am looking for a seat that will give me support I need in my lower back. I have a 04 FXST. Hate to pay $500 for one and not be what I need. Your input would be appreciated.
You need something with a backrest for your lower back. C&C solo with a backrest would do you right. Mustang also makes a nice seat with a backrest. Let me know fi you need dicso****ed forum pricing on either or anything else you hear about when the time comes. Drew
I agree with Drew. For someone like you (and me) with bad backs some back support is badly needed. I also where a Back-a-line back support belt when riding any real distance. It really helps.
I really should sell my Mustang Daytripper seat and get a Mustang Squareback seat for my FXSTB. Much better support.
I went to one of the big sporting good stores that handles free-weights and body building equipment. I got an elastic back support with adjustable side straps that are velcro fastened. It also has staves in the back for support. The thing really helps me a lot. The wife and I each wear one when we ride any distance. The cost is not bad either. This gives you pretty much all round support for your stomach and back.
I took a stock seat down to Dons' here in memphis. They do car upholstery. I had a King and Queen that I wanted to use on my Heritage. The seat was deep and helped my back. Blown out fron several work accidents over the years.
They took the Queen section off, reshaped the back pillow seat area and made a new cover for it. They added the bracket to the back so it would fit on the Heritage. Cost $150.
They will ad gel to the seat for $189 which is what I am going to do next.
What I'm trying to get across is a seat can be made to fit you and give you the support you need.
I have had 2 Saddlemen Explorer gel seats with backrest and they are in my top 2 seats. The other one is the Harley Signature Series with backrest. I have owned touring and Softails and tried at least 9 different seats including Mustang, Mean City custom, Reach, Sundowner, Pillow look, Saddlemen, Signature, Stock etc; I have a bad back also and have several surgeries on it so I know your pain brother.
