I just purchased my 1st Harley ever, 2005 softail standard efi. I need advise on what are some good pipes for this bike and I understand I have to have the controller remapped. Looking for someone who has the same bike who can give me some suggestions.
SEII's are a great addition. Unless you change the intake, you won't need to have the chip remapped. I recommend getting the Stage I (air filter) and the pipes done at the same time and have the dealer do the remap...you'll love it!
Hey man I am by no means an authority, but if you search around in the different threads you will find a lot of information. It seems like most people are going with either vance and hines or screamin eagle II's. There's a ton of info on both, I would recomend fitting into your budget what you want to spend and match it with the sound you want.
if you go to the vance and hines website you can listen to different pipes, or you can cruise to a dealer and check out the sound on used bikes.
I bought an 05 night train a few months back and my SEII's just came today. I liked those cause I could do the install myself, they were only like 220 bucks or somethin, and they had the sound I wanted. Not too loud, but definatley a harley sound.
Howdy Ken, welcome to the forum. I bought a Springer Softail about a month ago and the dealer recommended that I install the SE2's and the stage 1 before it left the dealership. That way, it would be covered under warranty and I could have it done all at once. I did as he suggested and I have been happy ever since.
I am buying the same bike as you are. I am getting the V & H big shot longs. Full heat shield, no seam, and power converter which give the performance of a 2 into 1. According to V & H, it should give me an extra 8-10 HP (probably overstated, but it sure sounds good). He said that the longshots HS will give an additional 3-5 HP. They are all 2 1/2 " in diameter. Original longshots are 2 1/4" in diameter and do not have full shields. IMHO, you cant go wrong with V &H. But ask around. Get what is right for you.
