Default Softail GPS Mount

I have spent hours looking at old threads on GPS mounting systems for my Softail and I'm now more confussed than ever. I have a Garmin Nuvi 765T and am looking for feedback from some of you on which way to go to mount my Garmin. My bike has stock 1" bars...I think. Should I power it or just use the battery in the unit?
My wife said: Buying stuff for that motorcycle never seems to end!
Then I told her we'll need tires soon...bad timing on my part! HA HA

Thanks...

I've got the Garmin Zumo 660 and I use the mount that came with it. It offered 2 ways to mount it:
1. on the left side you remove 2 screws and it connects right into the right of your hand or
2. they gave a U-screw that just goes around the handlebars anywhere and holds the mount for power.

I tried both and went with the U-mount. It's right near the middle of the handlebars now which makes it really easy to see. You don't have to look anywhere to view it. Also, it can be removed with a twist to put it into my windshield bag and out of the way.

Don't use the battery. It won't last long enough. Having power to the unit is really nice. Check the Garmin site or the Ram Mounts. In fact, I believe that the mount Garmin included in the packaging is a Ram Mount.

Default GPS Mount

I have a Zumo 550 and I use the powerlet mount for it. It has a plug in like a cigarette lighter that is wired back to the battery and has a plug-in for the gps and a ball for a ram mount. I forget the web site but google power plugs and it will come up. It fits right on the handle bars. I mounted it down near the clamps and with a tall ram mount it will clear the gas tank when you turn.

If you ever use a windshield, I think this is the best mount for the money:

I searched for months trying to find something I liked until I came across this mount. I like it far better than any handlebar mount I've seen. With this mount, you have to purchase a Garmin cradle and you're set.

I have a Nuvi 550. So far, I've just used battery power for my GPS, and mounted to the side of the windshield, it's great.

What about using a small tankbag with a clear front pocket?
