Default 2008 Night Train - Thoughts?

Hi Guys,

While I had my heart set on buying a Deuce as my first HD I happened across a really nice 08 Night Train at a fair price. It looks like a bad-*** bike!

A friend of mine said that I might not be happy with the riding position - especially after an hour or two?!? Isn't the rake and forward controls the same as on the Deuce? He also said the bike is more compact and might not suit me - I'm about 5'10, 200lbs

Am I looking for trouble here? Should I be thinking FatBoy? I'm not necessarily looking for something to be cruising across the country but I might do some 2-3 hour runs but majority will be boulevard cruisin...

Need some advice before making the purchase!!

Gazoo

Greetings,

I had an older Night Train and loved it. I didn't mind the riding position and with your height, you should be fine. What your friend is talking about is the fact the drag bars are further forward than a Deuce. You can always get different pull back risers and/or bars to get the riding position further back if you want.

Both great bikes but the train... is just a black softail and finding all kinds of parts are easy. But the duece is a little different... i often see in parts books "Fits Softails... Except Duece"... With no disrespect do the duece guys a train would be easier to find parts for modding. Plus you're gonna change everything anyway so the stock bars and other things don't really matter... lol

I am 6'2 and 255 and ride a 08 train. I just put on some 2.5 inch pullback risers but plan on running apes in the future. Also put on some kuryakn cruiser pegs. They let you stretch out when cruising the highway. Get it you will love it!

I would change the bars on the train to fit me and be done with it. It is far easier to find parts for the train than the deuce.

I'm 6'4" and the stock bars fit me perfect. I take regular 1.5 hour rides and I don't have any issues. You can always change the bars anyway.

how abouth this. buy the train and i'll sell ya my Deuce pullback risers. not a bad deal huh? lol. seriously. first thing i did was change the risers. like story said, the train will be easier to get aftermarket parts for if that's what you're looking to do eventually. just because it's technically a softail standard dressed in black. the only difference between the deuce and softail frame should just be that the deuce has the drop seat frame. fatboy ain't really no different than the nigt train except a fat front end and different bars. same frame. could do like i did, buy a night train and make it a night train/deluxe. the parts from same year softail standard, custom, deluxe, fatboy, and heritage are all interchangable. either way you go you're still looking at big twin bikes. best advice is go sit on some at the dealer and see what fits you and look down the road at possible modifcations.
good luck,
jason

'08 Train here. I'm 6', 215 and love it. I WILL be getting pullbacks at somepoint, but after 2.5 hours on ANY bike, one should be taking a break anyway.

GO FOR IT. Trains are BADASS.
