crossbones windshield installation
Just curious....anyone out there have HD put a quick release windshield on their crossbones? I was at the dealer yesterday and they said that it is a "major" job due to the springer front end. Basically, they said they need to tear down the front end to get the hardware installed. I wasn't aware that the hardware stayed mounted on the springer. I thought that all hardware was removed when you take the shield off.
As I recall, you have to take off one of the risers and remove the headlight to fit the bracket down over the triple tree but you dont have to do anything with the springs. It probably took me about an hour. Its a very nice setup!
Not to worry least expectation realigned now!
It took me an hour to take my bracket off my 02 and put it on my 97......And on a Heritage Springer, I had to dodge spotlight bars and horn wiring...
Here are the instructions for the mounting bracket.

Just remove one riser. A owners manual would be a good investment for you it will give you torque specs and what not. Be sure that when you reroute the throttle line you can turn the bars all the way both ways that the throttle doesn't stick when you test it. Also not a bad idea to use masking tape to cover the forks so you don't scratch the powdercote when installing the chrome bracket.
It super easy...just remove the headlight, loosen the risers, so the bars will lay back, take off the spring nuts & bracket, mount the windshield bracket, route the cables. It shouldn't take over an hour. I taped up the headlight & put a towel over the tank. DO NOT TAKE IT TO THE STEALER, they obviously want to charge you more than they should be. Anyone with a bit of mechanical talent can do this.
The mounting hardware does stay on the bike, but it really isn't noticeable.
