The $85 dollar quote sounds more accurate if that is their hourly rate. As most have stated already, it takes only about an hour provided you have the right tools and a service manual.

I did mine myself and it took just about an hour...and that is based on me being a total newb to Harleys. The instructions are pretty accurate and provided you have your service manual to help with the details then it is a pretty straight forward job. I think what sounds like the most intimidating thing is the fact that you have to remove the handlebars. However this is not as complicated as it seems since you are not removing them completely off the bike and disconnecting all your wires and lines. If you cover your tank up with lots of nice padded cloths, you can just remove your bars from the risers and then carefully lay them down across your tank. There is enough slack in all the wires and cables to allow you to move them back and out of the way without disconnecting any of that stuff. You have to do this because you then have to remove one of the risers which will give you the necessary clearance to slide the windshield mounting bracket into place. You might be able to force it if you just loosen things but you will probably scratch the $h!t out of everything. Better to take your time and follow all the steps. If you plan on doing it yourself, it would not hurt to have someone help you hold the bars in place while you start tightening things back up.

If you still insist on letting the dealer do it then you need to be concerned if they are trying to charge you any more than an hour later.

I know how insanely crooked they can be when it comes to those things. I was in one of my local dealerships not too long ago and they had a Crossbones with a 1925 seat installed on the showroom floor. There was a tag on the handlebar that showed the extra costs to the bike for the different seat. Besides the price of the seat, it listed 1.5 hours of labor for a total of $135 dollars! I SERIOUSLY felt like calling them out on it! I have that same seat on my Bones and it took me 15 minutes to install which includes removing the stock seat and swapping the hardware onto the new seat. If it wasn't that my bike was in their shop for a warranty repair I would have laid into them but I didn't want to risk pissing someone off and having them screw up my bike!

I thought that all hardware was removed when you take the shield off.
I am presently trying to remove the mounting bracket for the stationary windshield mounting kit from my 2010 XBones.Having difficulty does anybody know?
