Default 2000 Fatboy First Day issues...

I finally picked up the Fatboy yesterday. It has the 124" S&S Super Stock w/ the Super G carb, a Hyper Charger, and V&H Open Large Diameter Long Shots. It also has a new ignition system and charging system. When I test rode it, it was awesome. Yesterday when I rode it home (about 1 hour trip) it was fine. But this morning I took it for a long run and started having some issues.

First of all, it certainly seems to be lacking in the power dept. It has loads of torque, but it's inconsistent. And at about 1/3 throttle, it started cutting out like it was running out of gas. I switched it over to reserve and it helped for a little bit, but then it started again. I checked the tank and it was about half full, although there did seem to be a lot of rust/debris in the bottom of the tank. It actually died on me on the highway. After about 3 minutes, it fired up again and I rode it the rest of the way home, although it still was coughing and faltering like it was out of gas.

I checked the plugs and they looked pretty old and a little rusty. they weren't black but definitely not in great shape.

suggestions? thoughts? here's what I've come up with so far...

- bad plugs
- debris in the fuel lines
- debris in the carb
- jetting issues

anything else? for the price I got it, I knew there would be issues, so I'm not all that frustrated. I just want to get it back on the road. thanks for any help!

Replace plugs. Clean out the tank and replace the fuel line. Also clean out the carb.

One step ahead of you Drew!

I drained the tank and cleaned it out. It actually wasn't as bad as I had thought, but still good stuff to do nonetheless. The fuel filter actually looked brand new, so I left it in there. The lines seem to be fine also. I am running to NAPA to get new plugs as the old ones looked pretty old and rusty. Now I just have to figure out how to gap them. Anyone know where I can get a manual for a 98 S&S 124"?

I'll probably tear into the carb tomorrow. It's just so nice outside right now! I want to be riding, not working on the bike!

Is the fuel filter clear? How can you tell it looks brand new?

so I think i have figured out what the issue is... i think someone just slapped the hyper charger and a set of large diameter drag pipes on that Super Stock engine without adjusting or modifying the carburetor. that engine is pretty finicky and needs to be adjusted just right, and has to be set up right or it won't run.

so my first line of business is to begin adjusting the screws on the carb (idle, accelerator, main, etc...) and then see if we need to rejet. I am looking into baffles also, so hopefully that will begin to take care of these problems.?

Still can't quite sort it all out. I'm now thinking its a jetting issue in the carb. I don't have any way to tell what size jets the Super G has in it now. From reading their website, they said that drag pipes are almost impossible to carburate properly on their engine. I'm going to call their tech support if I don't get any help on here today, but I'm kinda at a loss... I want to get it running right now!
