You need a fuel management solution, of which there are a dozen or more choices. Your stock bike is running too lean to meet EPA standards and that makes the exhaust too hot. Do some searches on power commander, fuel pak, and TTS to learn more about this. Most of these are designed for use with aftermarket pipes and air cleaners but can richen up and cool down a stock bike too.

+1 on that. I put use the FuelPak and it cooled my bike down a ton. My leg was frying for the first week. Now I don't notice any heat at all.
If you plan on leaving the biike stock, you might look into an inline enrichment device (IED or XIED). Plugs inline with the O2 sensor and fools the ECU into running a little richer when in closed loop. Helps the bike run a little cooler.
Some say that going to synthetic oil may aid in the bike running cooler as well. I believe it helped me along with all the other above mentioned options.

+1, plus a pege extension to kick out your pegs approximately 3 inches. Kuryakyn has some nice ones.

i have seen an extension to make the peg over the pipe. if you are wanting to kill the engine heat and dont have the funds for a fuel management then replace the o2 sensor with a 330 ohm resistor and it will run much cooler. cool enough to touch the heat shield and not take your skin off
