In case anyone has any advice:
For my dad's 60th this year I told him I'd buy him some slip ons for his bike. He purchased it new in 2003 and hasn't done anything to it. Since it sounds like a sewing machine instead of a Harley I figured it was about time to upgrade him. That said, he has no idea what he wants (I figured he'd know) so now it's my job to find something that works. My plan would be to buy some pipes online and just install them myself (I figure it's easy enough) I know it's a very vague question, but am looking for help.
What would you recommend ? He's 60 so not trying to set off a bunch of car alarms, but want it to be "loud"... ya' know ? The loud shouldn't be a "bothersome" loud on a long ride, but at least a low rumble that the neighbors can hear. My target is a $2-300 price for slip ons..... is that reasonable ? PLEASE help me with some options.... If you can post pics or videos of your stuff that's a bonus! Attached is me and my girl on my dad's bike....
I put on Screamin Eagle IIs. They are discontinued but some dealers still have stock.
I hear the Rush slip ons are a good choice also.
My SE pipes are just slightly louder than I want but they are pretty good.

Kinda sounds like he's fine with what he has. check out J&P cycles website. Python slipons run around 250. Pretty much all of them are within 200-300 range. You could stick with Harley, and go with their slip-ons for 250 or screamin eagles for 300. you got alot of options. Also, check out the softail photo section here for lots of pics

eisterd: Thanks for the advice - that site seems very helpful - My dad has always wanted new pipes, but just couldn't justify the cost and doesn't have any friends who ride harleys so he didn't have much info on upgrades (him and my mom love riding, but they've never been inclined to ride with other couples) Anyway, your bike looks really clean.... any way to describe it's sound ? What type of exhaust do you have ?
deadman: Are there only one type of SE pipes for the 2003 fatboy ? If not, which ones do you have ?
mine are screaming eagle 16 gauge dbl barrel. They sound great but, on the loud side. My wife says she can tell it's me coming down the road cause it sounds like a Nascar car. They were $500 in 03'.
I bought the starndard SE slipons for my 09 flstc. had them for a few months but never really liked them. They didn't seem to make much of a difference in the sound. They cost about $300, so maybe the more expensive ones would be better? I actually still have them if you're interested, but to be honest, imho I wouldn't recomend them. Had Cobras on my old Metric bike and loved them, but maybe a little loud... I run a full V&H system now. Can't go wrong with V&H.
