Why pull the gas tank...
The other thing you have to remember is that you have to remove and re-install new throttle/idle cables. It is alot easier to do when the tank is out of the vay because the cables run through clips along the frame backbone up until just behind the throttle body. It makes working on everything alot easier.
If you don't feel like draining the tank, like some of the others said, you don't have to remove the tank. I slid mine back with a mostly full tank. It's just a little heavier to slide. One thing to watch out for if you slide it back is the clamps on the crossover line scratching the top of the motor.
One thing to remember, if your screwing around with the tank AT ALL.
Pull the fuel line to the injectors (left side of tank) off BEFORE you do ANYTHING.
I can say without fear of contradiction that if you fail to do it you WILL, like a lot of other guys, myself included, be looking at about a $50 bill for a new fuel line.
