I did see a huge difference when going from the Fuelpak to the PC. It fits into the same spot under the seat. I used the replacement ECM tray that came with the Fuelpak since they are both the same size. Now I can swap both out at any time. The throttle is a little more "crisp" but overall the bike just runs better at alll speeds. What settings did you use with the Fuelpak, default off site or custom? I would like to see how you got your settings with the Fuelpak.

How easy is to install the Power Commander?
I'm torn between the Fuel Pak and PC!
Don't know much about either other than a friend of mine installed the Fuel Pak on his Springer. He said it was extremely easy and is satisfied with power/speed that he received from the upgrade. No need to hook up to a computer, just set values from the instructions from V & H and done (also about $55.00 cheaper through Cycle Spot).

Took me about 20 minutes to figure out the instructions and 7 minutes to put it on. PCIII was the most important modification I have done to my Ultra. Gained HP, MPG, cooled it down and smoothed it out. Highly recommend the PCIII.

I have ran the PC III on my 05' standard for the last 18 months. I downloaded the map from their website for my V&H exhaust and Big Sucker A/C - no problems. Easy install, no issues at all. I installed the exhaust, A/C and PC III all at once, so no idea if one or the other was any significant improvement over the rest. It performs great, so have had no desire to pay additional $$$ to have it "properly" tuned. Been on for a year and a half, and no issues at all.

The tech's at the HD dealership give me some crap about it, but that's because they wanted me to buy the SERT from there instead. I like the PC III, so would have to recommend it.

I am curious though to see if they will have a new version out for the 07' models though (due to the new FI system and 02 sensors). Maybe the older ones will work with new maps? Does anyone know if the stock ECM plugs are the same from an 05' to an 07' FXST - to be able to plug the older PC III's into anyway? As of now, there aren't any exhausts for the new bikes, and no maps showing on their website, so still watching/waiting for how this play out.......

randyj,

I was also torn between which to buy. I went with the Fuelpak first because I thought it would be easy. After all the time I spent on the phone with V&H trying to get settings and going back and forth the PC turned out to be much easier. I ordered it from FuelMotoUSA.com preloaded with the settings for my bike and mods. Plugged it in and the bike ran great. I haven't made any changes to the settings they gave me. I now have a Fuelpak sitting on my workbench doing nothing. I did finally get the Fuelpak to work but it did not give me the performance the PC did, even after all the tweaking. The best thing about the PC is that you can make adjustments and actually know what the numbers mean. You can also take it to a dyno shop and get the bike fine tuned, not possible with the Fuelpak (at least no shops I know of).

Hmmm.........I have a few issues in regard to this topic.

My bike had V&H Staggered Duals installed by the dealer when it was brand new. All the dealership did was install the pipes and a high flow air cleaner. Nothing else! After a lot of problems they finally got the bike running but I know it's running really lean. The pipes are discoloring and the bike pops like mad on decelerations.

The pipes are now so bad we're gonna replace them with new ones.

I spoke with an H-D tech yesterday and he said they would throw it on the Dyna and see how it's running. Then they would install a PCIII and fine tune it to get it running correctly.

You guy's are all talking like it's pretty simple.

So your all saying that I could buy new V&H Pipes and install them on the bike, plug the PCIII somewhere underneath the seat, and put in the set points for the specific V&H pipes and I'd be all set.

Can it be that easy?

OK, I just spent a while over at Vance & Hines.com and I see they suggest the Fuel pack. Plug in the year of your bike, make of pipe, baffle type and then click enter.

Looks like it will then tell you the number to type into the fuel pack and the fuel pack adjusts your bike accordingly?

From the sound of things most users here seem to like the PCIII rather than the fuel pack.

I don't have a V&H fuel pack, nor have I ever used one, so can't really offer an opinion. It is made by Vance and Hines, so I would think they would try to push it. From the site, it appears that you have to physically put in alot of information manually - not a download. The PC III just uploads a map from the internet (for your specific exhaust and air cleaner), and you're basically done with it other than installing it (5 minutes). The PC III does allow you to make manual adjustments though however, if you have the tuning skills for it. In the case of mine though, it ran so good and the plugs looked excellent every time I checked them, I was content to leave it as is. My bike had very good throttle response and seemed to pull quite well at all speeds. Some very minor popping on decel, but not so much as I wanted to adjust for it - I kind of liked hearing the pipes cackle a little. Other options for you besides the fuel pack are the SERT, as well as a new product offered by Arlen Ness for re-mapping efi bikes. I have no experience with anything but the Power Commander personally, but it was so easy to install, I'd have to recommend it..........Good Luck, lot's of choices these days.

Thanks MTROUT. I checked out Fuel Moto's web site and asked them for a quote...

I ran a PCIIIr for about a year and a half, and it started acting erratic, like the bike wouldn't start no no reason at all.

I would, (OF COURSE) be away from home somewhere, I would start diagnosing the no start problem and it was so intermittent it got to be crazy. Finally the PC bombed for good, I finally had to take it out of circuit to get the bike to start, and to get home. I remember that day well. It started off nice and lots-o-sunshine. Dark clouds started rolling in, I decided I better leave. No start. Well, by the time I got the bike started the rains were well under way.

Dynojet people were excellent to work with, they replaced the PC at no charge, and I immediately eBayed the new unit and went with a SERT which is better by design and principle. The SERT wasn't yet available when I decided on a mapping platform initially. The PCIII is OK if you're not into tweaking, but with discounts the SERT is now only ~$100 more than the PC which made it a no-brainer for me.
