Default Oil Light

Again, seeing how this is my first Harley and the previous owner didn't have a manual, I am still running into unfamiliar territory about my new Heritage. Anyway, I get an oil light indication when I switch into ignition. When the bike is running, the light goes out. However, when I kill the motor and it remains in ignition, the light stays on. Is this normal?

Thanks a lot - Really need to get an owner's manual.
