Default Heritage Softail?

I posted this in the General area but would also like any comments here. I have an 03 FXD with about 12k miles on it with some extra chrome and SEII slipons. I have been looking for a bike that is more comfortable to ride with my wife as a passenger but still a cruiser. I had been looking at a Fatboy when I ran into an unusual deal from a local dealer (non Harley). He has an 05 and 06 Hertage Softail. Both bikes were acquired from Harley and had been rental bikes out west. They have been serviced by Harley and all serviced records are available to see the bikes have been well maintained. Both bikes have from 9 months to 1 year of original warrenty left on them. The 05 has 21,000 miles on it and the 06 has 18,000 miles on it. The 06 is fuel injected, otherwise the bikes are bone stock. This dealer, I have bought 6 bikes from over the years and I know the owner well. He has offered to sell the 06 to me for my FXD and $6k plus tax, or the 05 for $5,300 and my bike plus tax. This sounds like an outstanding deal. Should I jump into this deal, if so, which bike or should I walk away and buy an lower milage 05 or 06 Heritage or Fatboy?

Sounds great. Getting up there in miles though I'd consider once you get it a service to the chain tensioners or going to a gear cam drive.. But you can tell pretty easily when you crank them if they're running good. It's a good thing also that you can actually trade your scoot out.. I had a very unusual case where the dealer allowed me to sell on their floor my old 90 heritage on consignment.. otherwise it's a bear to sell an older bike.. so you're in a good position there to be able to trade out.

Well, I will be heading for the dealer tomorrow to ride both bikes. The 06 is a dark blue and silver while the 05 is lava red and vivid black. Both are more than acceptable color wise. I think I will take the wife with me so she has a chance to ride and give her approval on the passenger pillion. Thanks everyone for the help. I let you know which direction I end up going.

Stix go by the HD dealer and see what kind of deals he has on the 06 Fatboys and Heritages. Maybe the price will be better than the used ones , rentals ...... I don`t know , you know what people do to rental cars ! Be careful !!!!
