Shaking when accelerating and decelerating 45-55mph
Hello, I have an 09 crossbones with quite a bit of mods done to it. Most recently I had the shade tree rear fender kit put onto my bike by a local bike mechanic. While doing this he also changed my rear tire. He claims he balanced it. I know he is a really busy guy so perhaps he simply forgot. Anyhow here is my problem.
The bike runs super smooth as always from until i hit around 45mph from there to about 55mph it shudders quite hard actually. Though it stops once i hit about 55 60ish. Also the shudder is there between 55-45 when i decelerate.
I see no reason why the fender would cause the shudder it is not rubbing anywhere at all on the tire. My only other idea is my licenses plate mount is quite heavy and horizontal mount due to PA laws. It is not at an angle like many side mounts I see. I would just try moving that but it is bolted to the old style struts i have coming up from the axle. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thankyou!
Is it only when you are between 45 and 55? I would take it right back in and have him do a once over. Better safe than sorry..... Let us know what happens
I had this problem recently although I only felt it on deceleration dropping from around 45 to 40. Also, I only felt it if my grip on my bars was pretty light. I figured it had something to do with my neck bearings because H-D replaced them a few months before because of defect. They also checked my front wheel. It turns out that I had quite a bit of run out on my front wheel and it had to be trued. Fortunately for me it was all covered under warranty. Once the trued the front wheel and adjusted my neck bearings everything went back to normal.
Thankyou for all of the suggestions so far. As far as mods there is the rear fender swap that he did at the same time as the tire. I have it back at his shop now. He says the belt keeps getting tight with each ride. Perhaps the fender struts coming up from the axle are causing clamping issues? I don't see how that could be personally. As far as mileage the bike is only at around 4kmiles. Also there has been no front end mods. Is it pretty easy for a wheel to become untrue? Possible I got a bad tire? Thanks for any replys everyone.

They are the stock xbone wheels so they are spoked. It is at the shop now so if he cannot figure it out i will do whatever i can myself to fix the problem. I just think it has to be something with the backwheel/tire. It never did it before the fender mod and new tire on the back. It did it as soon as I took it out with the new mods. The speed specific makes me think its wheel/tire issue myself but at the same time i am no mechanic.
