ok guys, i got a dumb question, and i'm sure i know the answer, but i'll ask anyways... can the rear axel be put through in the opposite direction, or does it have to go through from the right side of the bike? '09 heritage if that makes a difference. thanks for your help.

You can put it backwards with no issue. Then you won't have to take your exhaust off next time. You are a smart guy!

ok, ok, enough spelling jokes... it was late and i was tired... thanks for the info though. I wish the dealer would have thought of that before he put the bike back together. cost an extra hours labor to change the tire, and it'll be the same next time. I'll just flip it myself this winter.

What do you guys consider backwards? Does that meant that the nut would be on the right hand (exhaust) side? The reason I ask is because of your initial comment that it cost you an extra hour of labor for a tire change. How many labor hours were you charged for if you don't mind me asking? I assume that it was because your pipe had to come off? My Crossbones has stock exhaust (which blocks the axle) and the axle is still in how it came from the factory but when I got a rear tire change I was only charged for one hour. Perhaps it is because it only takes a few minutes to remove a muffler than it does to remove an entire pipe since you seem to have Longshots? Although I don't think they ever removed my mufflers because if they had, I am sure they would have charged me for new muffler clamps which the H-D manual says have to be replaced any time you take them off. And I doubt that the dealership would be too gracious to not charge me every red cent they can, when they can.

yeah, the extra hour was for the exhaust. it's a bit of a job to get the longshots off on this bike. I'm thinking the put the axle back in that way so that i have to pay the hour every time. oh, i got charged 2 hours in total to answer your question. can anyone think of a reason that it couldn't be put back in from the other side?? maybe i'm missing something here, but that would make life easier, and cheaper...
